Fountainhead: Chapter 1

**Warning: I will try to not include spoilers, but I am sure some will slip and hey this the first chapter**

Great chapter.  Yeah- I am going to go chapter by chapter..I might skip a couple.

However, this is a great way to start a book.  An introduction to Howard Roark.

Honestly, Howard Roark is the way that I would have pictured my dad at that age (22). My dad was a hippie, not the hippies that we see around today, but a long hair none the less.  He was also a logger, paying his way through school–with some help from granny— but generally trying to make it on his own. He was smart, but hard headed and had to make a concerted effort to write for the proffesor and not for himself.

Why the story about my father……

In Chapter 1, Howard Roark is expelled from the Architectural School of the Stanton Institute.  This is where I was reminded of my father.   In Kansas City there is a house called the Sauer castle.  It sits ontop of a hill overlooking the city, and one day my father and visited the castle (just a house) just to see it, and because we heard that the owner might chase us off with a shotgun.  Stupid?  It was a square. No extras,  baubles or anything just a simple house.  My father said that he thought it was perfect because of its simplicity.  I agreed.  That was Howard Roark’s style (kind of) and he got expelled for it.
