Fountainhead: Chapters 7, 8, and 9

Roark: In the wake of Cameron’s retirement goes to work for Francon.  However, he does with one stipulation, he will not design, he will merely do the structure.  One person, the Chief engineer is really the only person that fully realizes Roark’s talent, but he is a nobody in the Francon operation so he keeps his mouth shut.  Eventually, Roark is offered the opportunity from Francon to draft a building, but when Francon won’t let him do it his way Roark pleads and is subsequently fired.

Months of unemployment lead him to a new firm, one in which he gets to design his way and his boss takes his sketches and sketches from others with different styles and merges them picking “the best.” Roark seems to kind of like this position, because he gets to design how he would like.

He also meets a friend, an ex-Cameron staffer. Mike.

Keating: Scheming and moving through life, using Roark’s talent is now just part of Keating’s life.  He bosses Roark around just to make himself feel better “important.”  Catherine his fiancee is still in love with him, but although Keating is opened up to another world around her is increasingly becoming short with Catherine.
