Fountainhead: Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
Wow, those chapters went by quick.
Roark: Breaking into a meeting Snyte, the owner of the architecture firm that Roark was employed and fixing a plan to Roark’s specifications got him fired and his first commission. Roark was now self employed. Cameron was enthusiastic to see his prodige start his own firm. However, while Roark liked his work and Heller, whose house he designed, liked the house the rest of the community did not understand. Roark picks up several other commissions here and there that don’t seem to work out well, and turns several commissions away because they won’t just listen to Roark.
Keating: There is not much to say about Keating’s work. He has positioned himself to become a partner at the firm, and is now living his life in a way that insures that goal. He has delayed marrying Catherine a homely girl, that doesn’t fit the mold of the wife of the a premier architect. Hard to explain in a short space, but Keating is also dating Dominique, Francon’s daughter. Dominique is either devoid of passion, which I don’t think is the case, or she is more like Roark but still searching for her passion. Dominique is also wittier than Keating always two or three steps ahead of him, which keeps Keating on his toes. Eventually, while engaged to Catherine, he asks Dominique to marry him and is turned down.
Other people of note: Mike- returns to build Roark’s first house; Heller- sends possible commissions to Roark; Toohey- A big labor supporter of organized labor, something about his leadership qualities, mesmerizing, will affect this story.
