The Solemn Podium
The Presidency is both the most honorable position that anyone could ever hope to obtain, and an office that imprisons and beats the soul of its holder.
President Bush now has less than a year before his long 8 year term is over. At times, the President seems to float across the stage. Seemingly lighter than air knowing that his prison term is almost over, and that his time under the microscope of the world is coming to an end. However, at other times he seems to drag.
Today, at the Conservative Action Conference, President Bush delivered a moving pep-talk to the foot soldiers of the conservative movement. Not really using a speech, at least not reading his speech, the President was striking the perfect chord with an audience that is looking for a clear direction. However, during moments of this speech is was hard to tell whether the President was reminiscent, emotional, or was just plain exhausted. Given the topic of the speech, accomplishments/failures/soldier sacrifices, reminiscent and emotional are very possible……… but to me it seemed as though the weight of the office is taking its toll on the President.
