Now that is the start to a conversation.

Let me start with a quick background to where I am coming from. Neo-cons are good, but they are not the group in control now. The group in control now are the neo-clowns. They took the sales pitch of the neo-cons and turned it on its head.

Neo-con movement= Preach morality then legislate fiscally

Neo-clown movement= Preach fiscally then legislate morally

In many ways this difference is hard to see, but you called them on it above, so I wanted to lay it out in the open.

Now to your comment. You make the fatal flaw of parental legislation. I hate to tell you this, but you are not smarter than other people ("you" is aimed at me too). The federal government, even the state government should not mandate, they shouldn't even talk about mandating, what people eat. What fat is bad? Is wine good for you? Is wine cancer causing? Is wine Religious? Is wine a sin?

Also, if these kids can't decide if a soda is bad for them, then we are in trouble. Personal responsibility is very important, but parental legislation like Obama supports, you support, and what Congress is currently working on in a housing bailout just doesn't help anyone.

Compromise: classes for parents on healthy eating.....non-mandatory. :)

Please excuse the pointing in this response, I have been in arguments all day and this one just kind of got to me. Your response is well thought out, well written, and backed up more than many pieces of legislation that actually pass on Capitol Hill.

I might write a post on this later this week.

This is an interesting point; however please give some evidence to show that the boring rhetoric given by the Republicans holds any fact or truth in it. The easy solution is not always the best and throwing money at a problem is not always correct but you happen to choose the one time where it is not only correct but necessary. This is a primary prevention initiative. By throwing money at the problem, and taking away the choice (in this instance drinking super sized soda pop with excess sugar), the democrats or whoever is actually trying to subdue an epidemic spiraling out of control. Before we can teach parents and children how to eat healthier and before we should teach them this, we must instill good eating habits and patterns in them. If they are accustomed to eating better then they will do it, and after they continue to do it, we should teach them why their behavior is correct. It seems to me that there are many examples where the Republicans throw money and useless unfruitful bearing classes at the problem, Sex Ed is one example. I believe in abstinence don't get me wrong, but teaching it in such an atrocious way, and ignoring all the other problems facing children is reprehensible. Here is a quote from Solomon the wisest man ever according to the bible if you believe it. Ecclesiastes 7:17 "Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?" These children may be doing wrong by not being abstinent but we are helping them to be foolish and that is the problem. The foolishness of not engaging in safe sex hurts these children far more than the fact that they are having sex. Seems to me there would be an intelligent and a wise way to incorporate abstinence and safe sex into a curriculum of mixed children. Either way please try to give better examples and prove your point.
