How bad are the labor numbers? Not as bad as some articles.
The new labor numbers are out today……..and they were not positive. This of course, rightfully, spurred a slew of articles, press releases, and press conferences all covering this new information. After reading several, that slapped both parties around a little I came to one of the worst articles I have read in a long time and it was in Reuters of all places.
Amid campaigning for November’s presidential election, the jobs report could give impetus to Democratic efforts to bring in more economic stimulus measures beyond the $152 billion in cash rebates and business tax breaks signed by Bush.
The rest of article maintains this lopsided commentary that ignores the roles of government to attack one party. Now I love, yes love, political attacks, I find that the written word can provide for some of the best and most well thought out debates, but I do not understand how a respected news agency can allow writers to continuously lie just to make a false point. Stupidity is only excuse.
How would I have made the article better? There was no mention of how Bush’s economic policies have been stopped, stymied, and pummeled every chance the democrats get a chance- I would have included a couple. The article didn’t mention that every one of the Democrats plans are based on Keynesian economic theory that has been thoroughly squashed by economists for more than a decade: I would have at least mentioned that the democratic incentive plans were not originally adopted because they were deemed ineffective. I would have bashed both parties, the President, and the media for painting a rosier picture of the economy than they should have. We have been doing great, but the American economy has been running on a razor blade edge for a long time and the US public should have been made more aware of that.
