Reverend Wright and Obama
Reverend Wright has become the central figure of the week (now almost 2 weeks) in the Democratic primary. He has made racially charged statements, ethnically charged statements, and has not publicly withdrawn any of these statements. I don’t think that he should have to withdraw them either. I believe that everyone in America has the right to free speech, and I believe that someone as eloquent as the reverend would be shirking his public service duties if he was not practicing his right to free speech.
That said, these racially and ethnically absurd statements are an abomination. Reverend Wright is no more than a hate spewer who uses his pulpit his disguise his message of hate. The “church” of any religion is often used for propaganda, which is why I have been on a long search, and Reverend Wright’s message has become very clear in recent days. Senator Obama did attempt to argue that Reverend Wright does not usually use hate speech in his sermons, but that is the skill of the propagandist. Their is no need to preach hate all of the time, a skilled propagandist will preach superiority most of the time, and hate only when he feels he can get away with it.
The news that Senator Obama’s Reverend is full of hate speech and Senator Obama standing behind him are not the most important part of this story though. The most interesting part of this story is that so many democrats dislike Hillary Clinton so much that this doesn’t even bother them. Polling has shown that this association hasn’t hurt Barack. Polling shows that Hillary is still trailing by significant margins for the one time front runner. The polling also shows that he is still ahead of McCain, but those numbers still don’t mean anything, because McCain is not campaigning against Barack right now he is merely trying to enlarge his network for the battle ahead.
Reverend Wright is not a good thing for Obama, but now he needs to question himself. Are people voting for him or against Hillary?
