Is London’s Election a Picture of Things to Come?

Boris Johnson beat Ken Livingstone to become the first Conservative Mayor of London. Let me just let out a little WAHOOOOOO!

When Londoners’ first and second preferences were added together Mr Johnson had won 1,168,738 votes; Mr Livingstone 1,028,966.

Ok, that is all for now, but this is what I am waiting to happen in the United States. The economy and taxes has already proven itself important to voters. For Republicans this is good because while voters speak out regarding many issue, one of the main issues that they cast a vote on is the economy.

It isn’t even a question which party has the advantage when it comes down to talking about the economy, because the rhetoric (when not trying to confuse voters) is 180 degrees different. Democrats talk about “Hope” and “Fairness” while Republicans talk about “Opportunity” and “Incentives.”

What is the difference? One is based in the dreamland of looters, elitists, and the lazy while the other is based in concrete numbers, research, and respect of the human ability. “Hope” and “Fairness” are admirable traits and actually things that both parties strive for, but they can’t be the center piece of an agenda or they lead to almost the exact opposite.

Boris
