Republicans Continue Protest on House Floor
Republicans will go back to the House floor at 10:00 am Monday morning to continue their protest regarding the Democratic inaction on energy prices and oil supply.
Republicans are mainly speaking in support of H.R. 6566, the American Energy Act, a comprehensive bill that seeks to lessen America’s dependence on foreign oil. In part, this reduction is found in the short term by allowing off-shore oil drilling.
As mentioned in my earlier post, This is an historic protest, and it will be interesting to see how long the Republicans can keep it up. Under normal circumstances, what has been called by some a tantrum, is now the only national political story. If republicans can make this story last for the rest of the week it will have a dramatic effect on the momentum that the democratic seems to be carrying in the final months of the campaign. August is usually a down month for national politics, the President usually returns home, Congressman start getting serious about campaigns, families are on vacation (when gas isn’t $4.00/gallon), and the nation isn’t following a neck and neck Presidential campaign. However, this year is different and the media is looking for stories to feed the demand of their viewers.
The Republicans bet everything on the increased demand that the current political storm has caused, and they are winning. Americans are feeling their pocket books get thinner every day, and are looking for action. Congress hasn’t done anything to address the nation’s woes, and if the democrats have their way they won’t do anything until at least next year, or they pass a bill that merely takes a swipe at investors who the have deemed “speculators.”
Tomorrow: Updates can be found through the Republican Cloakroom or here as I will be following the events of the floor.

Bob Hulme:
Wonderful effort by Republican House members. I called my Congressman, John Shimkus, and urged him to join. We need to resolve this energy issue ASAP. The Dems would like to see this country reduced to third world status so they may say, “I told you so!”. Many of us have fought hard and long to maintain our countries preeminence. We are fighting and defeating foreign terrorism. Way to go Republicans in fighting our domestic terrorists.

Great!
Update: The Protest is still going…………..and the Dems just keep taking hits. This argument is solidifying the do nothing nature of the Democrats this Congress.
